Biographical
Larry R. Rute is a partner in Heartland Dispute Resolution Association, Topeka, Kansas. This firm provides a wide range of alternative dispute resolution services, including commercial mediation and arbitration, private judicial proceedings, and conflict resolution systems design. Larry earned his Juris Doctorate (JD) from Washburn University School of Law and received a Master of Law (LLM) degree from the University of Washington. He is licensed in Kansas and Missouri. He is an Adjunct Professor at Washburn University School of Law, teaching Alternative Dispute Resolution.
Larry began his legal career as a public interest lawyer, serving as lead trial counsel in hundreds of civil litigation matters, including multiple civil rights class action matters in both state and federal court. In the mid-1990's, as Mediation Coordinator for Midland Mediation and Settlement Services in Topeka, Kansas, he helped to establish and administer the Kansas Human Rights Commission s voluntary employment discrimination mediation program, the EEOC's employment discrimination mediation program in Kansas and western Missouri. He was also responsible for the establishment and administration of the Kansas Supreme Court's family law "Access to Justice" Mediation Program.
He has successfully mediated more than 5,000 matters involving commercial law, consumer protection, employment law, family law, personal injury, probate, and other complex multi-party cases, including class and collective actions. His mediation practice focuses on civil rights, commercial contract, constitutional law, employment discrimination, malpractice and complex multi-party/collective action matters. He serves as an arbitrator on behalf of the American Arbitration Association (AAA). He is a Mediator and Due Process Hearing Officer for the Kansas Department of Education.
Larry is a Distinguished Fellow and former member of the Board of Directors of the International Academy of Mediators; founding member of Mediators Without Borders; a Past-President of the Kansas Bar Association Dispute Resolution Section; a member of several Sections and Committees of the American Bar Association; Immediate Past-Chair of the ABA's Family Law Section Dispute Resolution Committee; Kansas Supreme Court Advisory Council on Dispute Resolution; International Mediation Institute; Kansas Association of Counsel for Children; Kansas Bar Association; Kansas Association for Justice; Heartland Mediator s Association; Kickapoo Tribal Court; Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association; Missouri Bar Association; Topeka Bar Association; SHRM, and Kansas Appleseed. He has twice received the Kansas Bar Association s Outstanding Service Award. Licensed in Kansas and Missouri. He is a 2013-2023 Super Lawyer in Kansas and Missouri; International Who's Who of Commercial Mediation, 2010-2023; and Best Lawyers, 2021-2023.

Rates Information
$425.00 per hour Arbitrator/Mediator Compensation ($525.00 per hour for class action/multiple party disputes). 50% for less than seven days cancellation notice. Willing to serve in St. Louis, Springfield, Missouri; Omaha, Nebraska; Tulsa, Oklahoma; and greater Metropolitan Kansas City area and other locations throughout the United States, with prior approval. Full Day and half day rates available upon request.
